What is PeakRewards?

What is PeakRewards:  BGE is offering you a choice of a Honeywell programmable thermostat or an outside switch installed on your heat pump or air conditioner (Smart Switch) as part of an energy-saving program called PeakRewards. When energy demand reaches a peak, BGE may send a signal to your thermostat or switch.

At these times, BGE will turn your air conditioning (A/C) compressor off and on for brief periods (cycling), based upon the cycling participation level that you choose. The cycling participation level that you choose will also determine the amount of your summertime incentive credit. If you change your mind, you can opt out of the program at any time, and keep the new thermostat but chances are, you won't even notice when cycling is occurring and the only thing you WILL notice is the savings in your energy consumption and the credits to your bill! PeakRewards is available to BGE residential electric customers regardless of their choice of electric supplier. For more information on energy choice, click here.

What you get when you enroll:  Upon enrollment, you’ll receive a new programmable thermostat or the Smart Switch professionally installed at your home. If you choose the programmable thermostat, you can save up to $1,790 over the next five years.

You'll also receive the following:

A choice of savings and incentives:  A monthly credit on your BGE bill from June through September, totaling up to $100 each summer you’re in the program depending on the cycling participation level you choose.

A sign-up bonus:  A one-time matching bonus of $50, $75 or $100 in your first year, just for enrolling, based on the cycling option you choose.

The ability to save energy: You will enjoy year-round energy efficiency, and energy-cost savings, when you choose the new thermostat.

How PeakRewards benefits everyone:  PeakRewards is one of many programs offered through the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program. We want to help you manage and conserve your energy usage and save on energy costs. By reducing the need for additional electric power generation plants, reducing emissions from future power plants, reducing the need for additional electric infrastructure and reducing the wholesale price of electricity, this program benefits everyone.
